Shampoo bar

Everything you need to know about solid cosmetics!

Do you know about solid cosmetics? 🤷‍♀️ Perhaps you have already tested some? 🙋‍♀️

Soap (the ancestor!), Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste… the offer is growing more and more. We are starting to see and hear about it all over the place.

Practical, economical and ecological, these products are increasingly popular. Looking like blocks of soap, they are made without water, sold without packaging most of the time, and made with natural ingredients, which we really like! 😍

Zero waste 🚯

Solid cosmetics are great for switching to a zero waste lifestyle or at least for reducing bathroom waste. As we know, it is a room in the house that is a source of a lot of waste: shampoo bottles, shower gel and others, make-up removing cottons, handkerchiefs, toothbrush, etc.

With solid cosmetics, you already start by decluttering the bathroom with plastic bottles!

They are indeed sold without packaging, in bulk or sometimes in a small plantable or compostable cardboard box.

Natural ????

It is also an ideal alternative if you want to turn to natural products, with a healthier composition. A return to basics in itself!

These types of products are often offered by organic brands. They are therefore, for the most part, composed of natural ingredients such as coconut oil, shea butter, essential oils, clays and especially with natural surfactants (foaming agents). They also contain a lot less ingredients. Only the essentials!

As they do not contain water, they do not need preservatives, since it is the water contained in the products that promotes the proliferation of bacteria. They therefore keep much longer. Most also do not contain sulfates, silicones or other chemicals that are preferred to be avoided.

Having said that, as with everything, it is possible to come across solid cosmetics that contain synthetics. It is therefore important to check the composition carefully to ensure that the product does not contain harmful chemicals.

If you want, you can even find plenty of recipes to make them yourself!

Most often these products are also vegan and not tested on animals.

Another interesting advantage, for those made from 100% natural ingredients, you can use them in the great outdoors, if you go hiking for example, without risk of polluting!

Practical and economical 👌

These sturdy products are super convenient for transport! You can easily take them with you everywhere. They are perfect for flying, they can easily be placed in cabin baggage.

No risk of your shampoo leaking into your stuff like it can with liquid products. They are light and take up little space and as they last a long time, you are unlikely to run out of product during your vacation! There are special little boxes for carrying them, but you can also use an old empty cream jar, wedge them in a napkin, or place them in a small cloth pouch that you have on hand, if the product is not. completely dry. Small precaution ... be careful not to drop it or let it soak in water, as it could possibly break or crumble and will therefore be difficult to use.

The price of these products can be a little higher but the advantage is that they last much longer, they can last 2 to 3 times longer than the liquid product, so they quickly pay for themselves!

Let's find out more about the different bar products:

Shampoo of cours ! It is surely the most well-known solid product today. It looks like a soap, very economical, it can last as long as 2 bottles of liquid shampoo! You will find many brands that offer them as Lamazuna, for different types of hair (normal, dry, oily), Unwrapped Life, BKIND ...

For use, it's simple! On wet hair, rub the bar of shampoo and spread well between the strands of hair until lathering and proceed as with a classic shampoo. There are also 2 in 1 soaps, soap and shampoo at the same time. Unwrapped Life shampoos can last 65-75 shampoos!

According to people, bar shampoos can tend to dry out the hair a bit, so don't hesitate to apply ... 👇🏽

A conditioner !

You will find it in particular at the brand Unwrapped Life. The brand indeed offers, for each specific shampoo (The Balancer, The Stimulator, The Detoxifier, The Hydrator, The Fixer) its solid conditioner. BKIND also offers a shampoo and conditioner solids that adapt to all hair types.

After shampooing, you can apply the product directly to the hair, from root to tip, between each strand and leave on for a few minutes. Make way for dream hair!

It is often difficult to find a good deodorant, which is effective and especially without harmful components such as aluminum, endocrine disruptors and others. The advantage of solid deodorants is that they are very often composed of 100% natural ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate or essential oil of palmarosa, which are particularly effective against perspiration odors.

To use a solid deodorant, you just need to wet it a little with hot or cold water, like with an alum stone, and rub it on the armpits. A thin layer will settle.

Palmarosa deodorant from Lamazuna

Toothpaste !

The Lamazuna brand offers several solid toothpastes that look like ice cream on a stick!

It's very easy to use! Just wet the toothbrush with hot water and then rub it gently on the toothpaste block to pick up some product.

Solid toothpaste can last as long as 2 tubes of regular toothpaste. Profitable, right !?

Cleansers and makeup removers!

To be used with a konjac sponge, reusable moistened make-up removing pads or directly on a wet face.

Shaving bar !

For men or women, for the face, legs, armpits etc., which can be wet and then passed on the skin, a foam will then form.

If you are wondering how to store your bar product, you can simply place it on a small soap dish and let it air dry. Another little trick, you can use cut a piece of a sponge Loofah and drop your shampoo there. In any case, above all avoid it soaking in water in order to optimize its conservation!

You will understand the idea with bar cosmetics is really to be able to opt for products that are natural AND zero waste

The advantage of solid products is that, since they do not contain water, there are only active ingredients, unlike liquid products which can contain 80-90% water. They are therefore much more efficient!

If that's what you're looking for, it's up to you to experiment to find what suits you best!
